Do you know any good resources/references for historically accurate clothing? Like... I have a couple characters from ancient Egypt and I want to draw them in proper clothing, but if I look up "Ancient Egypt clothes/fashion" all I get are those cheesy looking Halloween costumes 🙄
I think the best thing you can do when looking for specifics is stay out of google images! instead do research! By simply doing a simple google search of “what did people wear in Ancient Egypt” i found some pretty good historical resources
https://www.historyonthenet.com/egyptian-clothing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothing_in_ancient_Egypt (as long as your not writing an academic research paper or something wikipedia is your best friend)
https://www.historymuseum.ca/cmc/exhibitions/civil/egypt/egcl06e.html
for other clothing and fashion resources I strongly recommend ‘The Ultimate Fashion History’ youtube Chanel
https://www.youtube.com/user/ProfHallay
and the ‘Getting Dresses’ Series from crowseyeproductions on youtube

hope this helps -Mod Todd (ko-fi)

Hello! I wantend to know, do you happen to know where to get good clothing references? cause when I Google search for "Traditional yukata" it shows mostly kimonos instead or when I search for "80s clothes" and a lot of neon leotard costumes show up. I just want my characters to be dressed time/ethiny apropiatte.

Is it okay to reference the redlines you do to help with poses?
Of course! The content we create here on the Redline Station is for educational purposes, and we want you to be able to use those to their fullest extent. It’s great to use our stuff for reference, but remember that we still have our own errors and biases, so its a good idea to cross-reference with a variety of real life images as well!
If a tip or trick looks useful to you, feel free to use it! That’s what it’s there for! Your artistic repertoire will grow as you learn from the artists around you, so there’s no shame in picking up a habit or two from someone.
You don’t have to credit us if you’re using our redlines for reference. However, if you do trace-studies or others of the like, credit would be appreciated if you decide to post it!

I also want to ask; how should one go about clothing design, specifically for teens/young adults in this day and age? In particular how do you design clothes that are unique to a character while keeping the clothing completely plausible? I keep resorting to tights/leggings and jeans, and t shirts and crop tops and treating the outfits as individual items of clothing when i feel like i should be treating them as one whole, as designing them individually results in clashing styles and simpleness
